We were thrilled to welcome back Sabrina Benas 🧠, one of our brilliant 2022 DeepLabCut AI Residents, who returned to the lab to share her experiences and ongoing research with our current 2024 cohort. Since completing the residency, Sabrina has been advancing her PhD in the Physiology and Algorithms of the Brain Lab in Argentina, focusing on hippocampal studies in mice 🐭, using cutting-edge techniques like DeepLabCut and Miniscope. Her visit was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the new residents and offer insights into the challenges and rewards of her work.

Sabrina didn’t just stop by to say hello — she brought a wealth of experience🌟 and a fresh perspective that lit up the room 💡. She reflected on how the DeepLabCut Residency played a crucial role in shaping her approach to research, particularly in the realms of coding and open science. Her experience here opened her eyes 👀 to the importance of development and documentation in scientific research. She’s now passionate about writing clean, shareable code 💻 and making her research accessible to the broader scientific community.

During her visit, Sabrina shared updates on her current research, including the challenges of implementing new technologies 🔬. She also highlighted the importance of collaboration and the value of interdisciplinary approaches, noting how these elements were central to her residency experience. The day was filled with lively discussions🎶, as the current residents eagerly engaged with Sabrina, drawing inspiration from her journey 🚀. They exchanged ideas, discussed their own projects, and gained valuable advice from someone who has successfully navigated the path they are currently on 🛫.

Sabrina’s advice to the new residents was simple: take your time to learn, don’t rush the process, and fully immerse yourself in the collaborative environment that the residency offers 🤝. For her, the residency wasn’t just about acquiring technical skills — it was about building a network, learning from others, and contributing to the open science movement 🌐.

As Sabrina continues her research and looks towards the future, she remains committed to making science more reproducible and accessible 🌍. We’re excited to see where her journey takes her next, and we’re grateful for the inspiration and knowledge she brought back to our lab.

❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Stay tuned for more updates from our residents and the exciting work happening in the DeepLabCut community! 🎉
